Once a hub for rail yards and supporting factories, the South Loop is a popular neighborhood just south of Chicago’s financial district. Its boundaries are considered to begin south of Congress Parkway and stretch as far south as 26th street between Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. Chinatown is rightfully accepted as its own neighborhood.
Several large universities call the South Loop home. Roosevelt University, Columbia College and Depaul University have buildings and dorms in this neighborhood. The schools’ many artistic and performance venues offer residents a plethora of entertainment. The world renowned Auditorium Theater is based in the South Loop, presenting the many works of the internationally known Joffrey Ballet.
The South Loop is also the locale of Chicago's oldest standing train depot, the Dearborn Station. Residents and visitors also enjoy access to the famous Grant Park along Lake Michigan, as well as smaller neighborhood parks. Restaurants, retailers and boutiques are found along many of the picturesque tree-lined streets that make us this area.
